The Best Thing I Did This Summer
Over the four months I was free from schoolwork, I was mainly occupied by regular work at my now slightly above minimum wage paying job (yay for a 25¢ pay raise!), all while holding it together as I interacted with my most annoying co-workers. Nonetheless, I had plenty of time to hang out with my friends, enjoy the weather, and relax before school started again.
The most exciting thing I did this summer, however, was see Xdinary Heroes live in early August. They’re a South Korean rock band I had casually kept up with since they started making music a few years ago, occasionally checking out their new releases. However, last December I finally listened to their whole discography, learned more about them, and officially became a fan—or a Villain as they call us.
So, of course, when they announced a tour following the release of their latest EP, Beautiful Mind, I knew I had to go. After months of waiting, five hours of sitting on a bus to the city, two hours of standing outside the venue, and becoming $50 poorer from buying a shirt, I was finally in the pit.
The whole thing was surreal. Fresh off the momentum of an amazing night at Lollapalooza just a few days before, the guys absolutely crushed it. The crowd was excellent too, everyone completely matching their energy and actively singing and dancing along for the whole two and a half hours.
This being my third ever concert, it made seeing a band that had quickly become a favorite of mine an even more memorable experience. As soon as I left the venue, I just wanted to experience it again and again and a few more times after that…
Let’s just say this: next time they come to the States, don’t be surprised when you see me in the front row.
