The Pressures of Finding Your Major

One of the best parts of college is meeting motivated students and learning about their dreams and goals. It really is almost inspiring to see someone light up and smile as they tell you all about their passions and dreams . . .

. . . but what if you don’t have that passion yet? Even if you have already picked a major, you may find yourself asking some really tough questions and finding them even more difficult to answer. Is this major right for me? Will I be able to graduate in this major and find work? What if I can’t?

It’s a spiral of pressure and negativity that consumes students and their confidence. What’s even worse is that nobody can help make the choice for you. After all, your life is your own. You can’t just go to your professor and say, “pick my future for me.”

As students, we crave freedom above all else in our decisions. We want to pick a path forward that will lead us to happiness and individuality; however, we also are afraid to wander from what we already know or think we want. Whether that’s trying out a major or switching the one we currently have, it’s a difficult thing to make a choice by ourselves.

So, how do we deal with this pressure? Sadly, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all strategy to overcome these feelings. What you can be sure about, though, is that others are experiencing the exact same thing and trying their best everyday to find their path.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say here is that self doubt and feeling like you can’t find your calling is both perfectly natural and also very frustrating to deal with.

An Ode to Vinted

Why does it feel like every time I walk into a store nowadays, I’m just looking at a landfill. Like, seriously, all the clothes are tacky, out of style, and way overpriced. It’s gotten to the point where I think around 70% of my closet is thrifted, handed-down clothes or discounted clothes. I am hardly […]
