What’s New with F1?

Over the summer, the F1 world has weaved in and out of exciting events for fans. From clashing teammates to new world records, this season has been full of drama that has had us drawn in for more.

As of late, both McLaren drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, are battling for first place in the Drivers’ Championship. Oscar is currently leading, as of this issue, with 324 points, with Lando just behind with 293, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in third with 230.

While battling for first and getting consistent podiums, the McLaren drivers have put their team at the top of the Constructors’ Championship at 617 points as well, with Ferrari behind them with 280, and Mercedes in third with 260.

Max Verstappen also made news during the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, securing the fastest lap in Formula One history with a time of 1 minute, 18.792 seconds, with an average speed of 264.682 km/h (164.466 mph). This lap speed record is both the record set for average speed, but also for the Monza Circuit, previously set by Lewis Hamilton in 2020.

Two notable, award-winning podiums caught many fans’ attention with their unexpected but respected appearance. During the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, Nico Hulkenberg secured his first-ever podium finish, landing the number three spot in the race. He had jumped up all the way from 19th position in his Kick Sauber car, despite the rainy conditions he faced.

The other noteworthy podium was none other than rookie Isack Hadjar, also finishing third in Vandvoort at the Dutch Grand Prix. After starting the race in fourth, he strategically stayed close and benefited from Lando Norris’s retirement before scoring third in the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls’ car.

Will the rest of the season lead us to a McLaren victory, or change drastically?  Though there are only eight races left, anything could happen.
