Big Booms for BSU Transit
Nothing is promised to you besides death and taxes, especially not ideal conditions for walking around campus. Rain, snow, frigid temperatures, or just pure laziness sometimes stands in between us and getting around by ourselves, but there is a solution to this problem. The wonderful people at BSU transit work around the clock to provide a necessary service to many that often goes unappreciated.
I wanted to get a closer look at how things work behind the scenes, and so, I decided to interview one of the many bus drivers on campus to see what it’s like from their perspective. College life can get hectic between managing classes, friends, clubs, and so much more, so it’s easy to see how many of us can get wrapped up in our own lives and sometimes lose sight of the people around us. I bring this up because many of the bus drivers on campus are our fellow students who manage to pack even more into their schedules on top of everything else going on.
A perfect example of this is the driver I was fortunate enough to interview. Christian Hendricks is one of the drivers you are likely to encounter if you frequent the BSU bus service. Like his fellow drivers, he works many shifts each week, shuttling hundreds of students around campus, around the clock. His hard work can be seen as he is not only a bus driver but also the head Resident Assistant (RA) of a residence hall on campus, and his schedule is always packed. When asked about what makes driving a bus difficult, Christian said, “you need to have the drive.”
Gratitude goes a long way. A simple thank you to our drivers can be an important reminder that their hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and that we really appreciate them.
