BSU Fall Sports Season Rolls On
With the Bears’ fall sports season well underway, it’s time to check in on how each team has been doing so far this season.
To start off, the men’s soccer team is off to another great start. The team currently sits 2nd in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) standings with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 5-5. Junior Goalkeeper Kyle Sullivan was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week after notching two shutouts, while Freshman forward Cameron Walty, for the 2nd straight week, was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week.
The women’s volleyball team has also gotten off to an impressive start, with the team also currently 2nd in the MASCAC standings. With an undefeated record within the conference (2-0), the team’s 9-3 record marks them as a true contender going forward. Junior outside hitter Ava Crane was also named the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week, averaging 14 kills, four aces, 23 receptions, 11.5 digs, and 1.5 blocks.
Men’s football is off to a tough start but will be sure to bounce back with much season left to go. With a 1-2 conference record and 1-3 overall record, the team sits tied for 6th in the MASCAC standings. Despite the slower start, BSU’s senior kicker Joey Naso was named the MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week after making a pair of field goals (40 and 27 yards), and going 4-for-5 on PATs.
Women’s soccer is picking up exactly where they left off last season within the conference, posting a series of great team performances. They currently sit 2nd in the MASCAC standings with a conference record of 3-0-1 and an overall record of 3-5-1. Senior goalkeeper Logan Levesque was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week last week, saving 80% of the shots in over 180 minutes of play.
Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the 52nd Annual Mass Dartmouth Invitational. Though the women’s team did not place and the men’s team finished 18th, the week prior, senior Naomi Cass and senior Kyle Ackroyd were named MASCAC Runner of the Week. Freshman Olivia Pendleton was also named the MASCAC Rookie Runner of the Week.
Women’s tennis won their most recent match, holding off Southern Maine by a score of 4-3. Keeping this undefeated record against Southern Maine (22-0) improved their record to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the Little East Conference.
Last but not least, the Bears’ women’s field hockey team has been spectacular to start their season. The Bears currently sit atop the MASCAC standings with a 3-0 conference record and 7-1 overall record. Junior midfielder Abbie Zuber was named the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week, scoring four goals and two assists for 10 points in that span.
There are a lot of games and matches left to be played, so stay tuned for more updates as the season rolls on!
