Celebrating Latin and Hispanic Heritage with LSA
On September 30, 2025, Bridgewater State’s Latin Student Alliance (LSA) presented Barrio Party Con La Comunidad, a block-party style event on the Stonehouse Lawn. The event featured music, fun drinks, catered Brazilian food from the Sunshine Brazilian Restaurant, and a much anticipated Hippo Chow Down. Decorations of streamers and country flags covered the Stonehouse Lawn, making it the perfect celebration to commemorate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., students gathered to party, creating a strong sense of community that lasted throughout the night. As students lined up to grab food, faces lit up at the sight of cultural dishes that are deeply missed while being away on campus. They urged each other to try out all the varieties of food and kept coming back for more. BSU’s President Fred Clark made an early appearance, handing out free goodies and showing support for students. From start to finish, Barrio Party was in full swing.
With this event, LSA aims to build on its mission to uplift and celebrate the diversity of Latinx and Hispanic communities at and around BSU while, at the same time, increasing cultural awareness across the university. LSA’s Treasurer Glendys Bonilla says, “in today’s climate, where our community often faces discrimination and prejudice, we want to affirm that there is a strong and proud Latinx presence on campus. Our club is a safe and welcoming space for those seeking community and connection, and we are equally committed to educating others about our culture and heritage.”
