Navigating Fall Sickness at BSU

It’s officially fall, and fun fall activities are approaching. Leaves are falling—excitement is arising—yet so is the occurrence of sickness.

Unfortunately, as a college student, you’re more likely to get sick. You’re transitioning to a new environment; the pressures of academic and social stress are weighing in; and sleep becomes scarce due to tight deadlines. To anyone who has experienced the fall flu, you know how terrible it really is. With our resources here at BSU, you can hopefully avoid sickness and find healthy success this semester.

Our on-campus Wellness Center, located on the ground floor of Weygand Hall, is staffed with 20 full-time nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and certified therapists. It is open to all BSU students, commuters, and residents alike.

My freshman year, I contracted a mysterious illness, and with the help of the Wellness Center, I was able to get an appointment, get prescribed medication, and pick it up from the CVS just off campus—all in one day. Making an appointment is simple. Call the Wellness Center at 508.531.1252 and make an appointment tailored to your availability.

While yes, treatment is important, how can we prevent illness at the root?

Your dorm can get dirty easily, so make sure that you’re actively cleaning! You can find all sorts of cleaning supplies at the BSU bookstore, including disinfecting wipes. Did you know that your phone screen is just as dirty, if not more, than a toilet seat? Cleaning surfaces such as your screen helps to target those frequented areas. As much as you heard it in elementary school, washing your hands is important. It ultimately prevents the spreading of germs and creates a healthy habit within your hygiene routine.

Say bye to fall sickness and hello to semester success!
