Pride Center Spotlight
Are you looking for an inclusive space for all students? Look no farther than Bridgewater’s Pride Center! No matter how you identify, the Pride Center is open and accessible to all members of the campus community.
The ultimate goal of the office is to educate Bridgewater students on how they can create a welcoming environment for all individuals. For a little background behind the center itself, Bridgewater State was the first public institution to establish a dedicated division specifically toward inclusion in the LGBTQIA+ community. With the goal of participating in community safe practices, BSU was among the first schools to make student demographics such as sexual orientation and gender identity optional.
Located in Rondileau Student Union, room 109, the Pride Center is a hub for networking with students as well as event opportunities such as their Fabulous Fridays series. The series follows events held every Friday that encourage all students to let their creative juices flow. Since the start of the school year, events in this series have included glitter jar making, clay ghost sculpting, and tie-dye activities to commemorate National Coming Out Day.
I decided to check out the Pride Center myself, and the friendliest people greeted me with nothing but open arms. In search of information about the division, I was given pamphlets as well as encouragement to speak to staff if needed. To say the least, they upheld their standards of creating a welcoming environment for all students.
The Pride Center provides in-person resources for all students. These include providing inclusive housing for students as well as general navigation through the college experience. BSU strives to foster student-to-faculty connections. Schedule a meeting with the Pride Center Navigator, a member of the staff from the office of Student Success and Equity Interventions whose office is in the Pride Center! Navigators are full time staff dedicated to help students navigate personal and academic challenges.
During your time at BSU, the Pride Center is going to be one of your greatest resources. Get connected one-on-one with the faculty and staff by attending their office hours held throughout the semester!
