Smile News: Medway Hairdresser Helps People Get Their Confidence Back
Hairdresser Heather Cohen in Medway, MA, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2021. Part of the side effects of her treatment was that she would lose her hair. The diagnosis was a devastating blow for Cohen, who quickly realized that despite all of her amazing skills with hair, she could not fix it as she normally would. This led Cohen to turn to wigs, but it still was not simple. She bought, cut, and styled all sorts of synthetic and human hair wigs until, finally, she discovered the perfect formula. She crafted a wig that gave her back her confidence and made her feel whole again.
“I put it on and was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m Heather,’” Cohen explained, describing the first time she put on one of her perfectly styled wigs. This momentous occasion not only gave her back so much of her confidence but also made her realize how so many of her clients dealing with hair loss felt.
From then on, Cohen began offering a service at her salon, b.LUXE, where those who are losing their hair can get wigs styled to perfection. Cohen has now helped hundreds of people get their confidence back, and he has brought so much joy to those who have been through so much.
Teresa D’Ambrosio lost her hair three years ago due to a side effect of medication she was taking. She described feeling devastated and lost all of her self-confidence. That was until she made an appointment at b.LUXE with Cohen. When asked how she felt when she put her first wig on, she simply said, “It was amazing. I’ve never been happier.”
On top of her amazing custom wig services, Cohen also helps her clients work with their insurance to help fund the wig. Wigs can be insanely expensive, with synthetic wigs costing $200 to $700 and human hair wigs costing between $1000 and $4000. Oftentimes, insurances will cover the entire or partial costs of wigs, but they must meet the right criteria. Cohen helps women navigate their insurance claims and helps them prove they meet the criteria for an insurance-funded wig.
