The Art of Napping
I am a very schedule-oriented person. I like to have things laid out for me to the point that one of the first things I do each morning after making my bed and finding the perfect nature video to listen to as I start my day, is write down every single thing that I have to do/planned for that day.
Down to brushing my teeth, filling my water bottle, or finding a good album to listen to while walking across campus, I will write everything down and cross it off one by one as I get through the day. Without fail, every Wednesday, a glimmer of warmth and excitement shines within me as I etch into my Post-It note “nap 2:30pm – 5:30pm.”
As you may have gathered, I like to get things done. But I am of course of the work-hard-play-hard mindset, except replace “play” with “rest,” and now you’re swinging into my field. I love naps!
Now, any nap is not good enough for me. I have one day out of the week when I can nap, so it always must be perfect!
What is perfect, you ask?
Walking from class, I like to play a nice jazz album, something to relax my mind and get me at ease as I walk to my dorm room. I of course take a warm soothing shower, typically continuing the jazz motif as I scrubba-dub in the tub.
Now, a nap mustn’t be had on an empty stomach, and there is not just any old food that one should eat before drifting away into the void of comfort and sleep. That is where the perfect food comes in: soup. A nice warm bowl of soup with dim lights sets the perfect scene.
Then, when the soup is finished, comes the most anticipated part: getting snug as a bug in a rug and drifting away into the snuggest sleep imaginable.
We as students are extremely busy people. I have learned personally, it is the little things such as these naps that really make or break my weeks. It doesn’t have to be napping, but I always recommend that you find something to look forward to each week that is specifically for you!
