The Frequency Shift Featuring Fred Clark
On Novemeber 5, I had the opportunity to attend The Frequency Shift WBIM radio show hosted by Alexz Krauzyk and Brandon Krup with a special guest, President Fred Clark. Alexz and Brandon delivered an electric environment, and President Clark made the atmosphere with his music taste.
If you aren’t familiar with President Clark, both him and his wife, Carrie Kulick-Clark, are dedicated alumni of BSU. He was a commuter all four years and a part of the Political Science Society.
Clark got the party started in Fred-Clark manner, kicking the hour off with “Get the Party Started” by P!nk.
President Clark believes in the visibility of student involvement and creativity, which is why he decided to come on the show. He believes students deserve to express themselves, especially through music. He has an eclectic music taste, believing it’s not about when the music is made but the music itself—experiencing all forms of music, everything from Tina Turner to Bell Biv DeVoe. “Music makes you richer as a person,” he said.
His second song of the show was “Hall of Fame” by the Script and will.i.am, and through this song, he showcased his BSU pride.
Fred Clark praises the work done by commuters and the commuter office, “This is everyone’s university, and students deserve every possible opportunity to succeed.” As a transfer student and commuter, Alexz, hopped on a call with the commuter office and was offered a position almost immediately. “The hardest thing to do is put yourself out there,” he said. “Someone is hoping you’ll do it.”
President Clark took us back with “Ballroom Blitz” by Sweet and “Sultans of Swing” by The Dire Straits.
Brandon left us off with a thought provoking question—who is Fred Clark outside of BSU? He is simply Fred Clark. He is always wired to be nice and respectful, no matter the setting. In his free time, you’ll find him building and doing projects in his backyard. Never in a million years did he think he would become the President of BSU, even as a student here. He loves what BSU stands for and plans to finish his career here.
He ended us off in BSU pride fashion, with an enthusiastic “Go Bears!”
