The Lowell Spinners Return
In 2026, the Lowell Spinners will be making their return to Edward A. LeLacheur Park in Lowell, MA. The new Spinners are not affiliated with any Major League team like the original Spinners were with the Boston Red Sox but rather as a collegiate team and a part of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). The league features two former Spinners opponents from the New York-Penn League: the Norwich Sea Unicorns and the Vermont Lake Monsters.
Once an affiliate of the Red Sox in Class A—Short Season—the Spinners won four division titles, having done so in 2008, 2009, 2016, and 2019. The Spinners also sold out every home game for 413 straight games from 1999 to 2010, including selling every home ticket in 2000. However, the team folded in 2020 when Major League Baseball restructured the Minor Leagues, which led to the elimination of the entire level the Spinners were a part of.
The Red Sox said they would try to keep baseball in Lowell, but nothing materialized until now. The Spinners will return in 2026. Chairman and CEO John Croteau said, “Restoring the Spinners name was the clear and natural choice—it connects us to something far bigger than the game itself. It pays tribute to Lowell’s textile mills that helped ignite the American Industrial Revolution, and it reflects the grit, hard work, and community spirit that built this city and continue to inspire our players, partners, and fans alike.” The team at a press conference also unveiled new uniforms and a new logo with a spool holding a bat. In addition, an old logo with a spool of thread surrounding a bat forming an S will be brought back.
