Tips to Pass Your Finals!
It’s that time of the year again! Before we can enjoy the holidays and the nonexistent thing known as a good night’s sleep, we have to pass our finals. That’s cool! No big deal, right? . . . Yeah, finals can be a bit much, and it certainly isn’t the most fun thing in the world. So, if that’s the case, what are some good strategies for preparing?
My personal favorite strategy is always to make a study group with others in the class. Even if you don’t know anyone else and have said a total of 4.5 words the entire semester, it never hurts to walk up to someone and ask if they’re free to study together. Besides, the final is a lot less scary when you have someone else helping you prepare.
One thing that truly sucks about studying is the constant focus that’s required. On paper, it sounds easy to just study for five hours, but the sad reality is that it can be really hard to stay focused. That’s why you’ve got to add some fun in between! I’ve seen some people do balances such as 30 minutes of work and five-minute breaks, but that might not work for everyone. What I personally enjoy doing is making personal goals and a reward. For example, if I complete five questions on this study guide, then I can watch an episode of a show as a reward!
But what if you don’t know what to study? The answer here is pretty simple: office hours and tutoring. While, unfortunately, this isn’t always possible for every class, it’s always worth trying to schedule an appointment or two to try and improve your knowledge.
Finals may be scary, but just remember how it felt to be completed with midterms. Finals aren’t forever . . . they are only two-hour testing sessions.
