Iron Lung Is Outstanding
This past Monday, I went to see the independent movie Iron Lung, which heavily exceeded expectations—tremendously. I may be biased since I’ve been following Markiplier’s career since I was 14, but even so, this man has achieved so much.
I’ll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but let’s go over the movie’s plot. The movie is based on the game Iron Lung by David Szymanski. In the game, you play as a convict who’s sentence is to explore the unknowns of a blood ocean on a mysterious moon in the sealed submarine nicknamed “Iron Lung.” The reason for this expedition is The Quiet Rapture, an event that caused all planets and stars to disappear, leaving only moons and space stations.
The movie shows us Simon, the main character played by Youtuber, director, and actor, Markiplier, struggling in the claustrophobic sub. Simon encounters many stressful and conflicting tasks amidst the knowledge that if he doesn’t come back successful, the human race is sure to be extinct.
This movie had it all. It had the thrills, suspense, acting, and visuals that make you really appreciate a good film. Since it is independent, it doesn’t have everything big moviemakers provide, but that’s what made me like it even more. It is a slow burn type of movie, meaning the action and jump scares a lot of people are hoping for don’t come frequently and instead are subtly introduced. For some fans, this left them unsatisfied with the pace and excitement the promotions built it up. I, however, think this is a great kickstart to not only this story, but to Mark’s film career, especially considering it hit #1 in the US.
