Student Organization Spotlight: Filmmaker’s Society
Ever had thoughts about making a short film, doing content creation, or being a part of a creative club on campus? Look no further than Filmmaker’s Society (FMS) at BSU!
FMS is a student run organization that focuses on giving members the tools and opportunities to create whatever they desire to put out visually. Whether it’s a short film set in a classroom, a feature length film, or even a TikTok for their page, FMS has a space for everyone interested. First-year President Kaleigh Elgar has been leading the charge in driving students to be the visionaries that they are capable of being. Every week, there is either a fun activity planned, networking opportunities for members to get their names out there, or a chance to work on projects that are pitched to the whole group.
Every semester FMS holds events such as the Video Showcase, an awards show hosted in the Moakley auditorium, as well as Rocky Horror Picture Show night, an exciting crossover event with BSU’s radio station 91.5 WBIM. Members can also pitch ideas to the club to create their own masterpieces with the help of other members. As someone who has been part of FMS since their freshman year, I can say firsthand that being able to work with your peers on projects that feel inspiring and well thought out is remarkable. FMS sparks something that drives you to keep creating things and sharing them with others. It is the perfect outlet for those who do not feel that they have the skill or the confidence to do it themselves as there are always others who are there to give a helping hand. The community at FMS is a welcoming one. Whether you are a novice videographer or a well trained director, there is absolutely a spot for you.
If you have any interest in FMS, please reach out to President Kaleigh Elgar (KELGAR@student.bridgew.edu). FMS meets every Thursday from 6:00–8:00 PM in Moakley 120. I hope to see you there.
