Xania Monet and Sienna Rose: The Rise of AI Music
With technology advancing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) growing all the more popular, people fear that the future of music will be changed by the next new thing: AI music.
As of recently, an online musical persona named Xania Monet has gained popularity as the first AI artist to make a debut on an official music chart, on the Adult R&B Airplay Billboard Chart. Telisha “Nikki” Jones, the creator of Xania Monet, says that all of Xania’s lyrics are directly taken from her own poems, made from her own thoughts and feelings.
Although Xania’s lyrics are made by a real artist, her AI-created vocals are a mix of voices taken from existing singers, with notes sounding almost identical to Christina Aguilera and Beyonce.
Another AI artist, an R&B and soul singer by the name of Sienna Rose, has taken the internet by storm by amassing over three million monthly listeners on Spotify, with three of her songs charting in the Spotify Viral Top 50.
There are speculations that her audience has grown increasingly because people cannot tell the difference between AI music and real music. Her popularity spiked when Selena Gomez shared photos on Instagram with Sienna’s song “Where Your Warmth Begins,” which is now taken down.
With the rise of AI music, this begs the question, “Is AI slowly taking over all of humanity’s forms of creativity?” Will AI continue to be machine-generated instead of made from hard work and persistence? What does the future of our creative and professional world look like with AI as the new kid on the block?
