Making the Case for Pro-Life
Why am I pro-life?
The simple answer is that abortion kills a developing child. It’s a scientific fact that a unique human life begins at conception. Your own journey started when a sperm and an egg combined to form a new organism with your unique DNA! You then became an embryo, a fetus, an infant, a toddler, a child, a teenager, and perhaps more.
Humans at different stages of development vary in their looks, size, and abilities, but at every stage, we should be valued as part of the human family. That includes having the most fundamental, “inalienable” human right—the Right to Life!
Supporters of legal abortion often argue that a pre-born child is not really a person because he or she lacks certain capacities or can’t live independently, but the same can be said for newborns, very elderly people, and many people with disabilities. These things don’t make someone’s life less valuable or justify their killing.
Others argue that “even if it’s a person, it’s the mother’s right to abort it.” I agree that people’s freedom to make decisions is important, but it’s also right to restrict some choices when they harm innocent people. Abortion intentionally kills a child and is a brutal procedure—in some cases, it involves crushing the skull of the baby and/or removing the arms and legs one by one.
Since Roe v. Wade in 1973, over 66 million babies have been aborted in the US. Some of these people could have been our own friends, classmates, and co-workers. We should stop this tragedy by recognizing the Right to Life for pre-born children while simultaneously providing greater support for mothers.
