Not Sure Where to Start with Your Sorority Experience? Start with Panhel!
BSU is the home to four Panhellenic sororities: Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Phi Epsilon, Gamma Phi Beta, and Phi Sigma Sigma. Each organization has their own philanthropy initiatives and values that their organizations are built on. Though each organization is different in their own way, they are all a part of the Panhellenic community, which is overseen by the Panhellenic Council.
The Panhellenic Council (often shortened to just Panhel) is a governing body that seeks to promote unity, scholarship, leadership development, and community engagement across all of the Panhellenic chapters (or sorority organizations).
Cat Powers, the current president of the Panhellenic Council, helped define the Panhellenic Council, stating, “Panhel is the central hub for the sorority experience at Bridgewater State University. We exist to support, connect, and amplify our chapters while promoting shared values of leadership, service, and sisterhood.”
The Panhellenic Council works to plan a formal recruitment every year during the last weekend in September. During this weekend, recruitment participants will get a chance to meet all of the sororities and get a feel for which is the best fit for them. Throughout the year, Panhel plans many fun and constructive events to help strengthen the unity of the Panhellenic community. Panhel often offers study hours with fun themes, social events, and fundraising events for their philanthropy “Circle of Sisterhood,” which helps women all over the world get access to education.
Joining a sorority can be an overwhelming and confusing process, making it hard for students to know how to get involved with sorority life. This semester, Panhel is working to ease that process by establishing itself as the clear starting point for getting involved with sorority life.
Powers emphasized that this new initiative will help make sorority life at BSU feel more approachable: “Everybody starts their Panhellenic experience differently, but no one should have to start it alone. Panhellenic is here to provide connection, support, and a community that grows with you from day one.”
