The Difference between “Neurodivergence” and “Neurodivergence”

There has been an ongoing issue lately in regards to those with mental disabilities. Nowadays, instead of certain names like Autism or ADHD, it’s all being grouped under the classification of Neurodivergence. However, there’s a strong difference between the phrases.

Neurodivergence practically means that the brain can process information differently. While it is almost the same, it’s a generalization of the more complex parts of these mental disorders. Each mental disability that affects the brain is different from the other, and they operate on different levels.

For example, ADHD is the polar opposite of Autism and vice versa. They might sound the same, but ADHD is more active and always thinking and being more social and Autism usually focuses on the silence and distancing, along with taking more time to think on certain subjects. People often assume that they are alike and calling it neurodivergence would be more simple for them. Yet, the thing with cutting corners is that at some point, it’s not going to work.

It would not only be wrong but offensive and inappropriate to call someone the basic meaning of generalization. If someone is generalized as neurodivergent, then we don’t know the full extent as to why they act the way that they do. Neurodivergence should be used less frequently as it’s harmful to those with mental disabilities.

To be put under the same tree, despite you not technically belonging there because you’re different from the other person across from you, isn’t right. We should call these mental disorders what they should be called so that people will understand more about themselves and others. The more people who know, the better it will be to avoid generalization. Everyone can be who they really are, instead of being lumped in on a bad sense of generalization.
