In a tournament of persistence and commitment, Rory McIlroy went on to emerge as the winner of the Masters Tournament in 2026, earning himself a green jacket for the second year in a row.

Despite McIlroy having taken an early lead of six strokes after the second round of the weekend, things were not always easy. During the final two rounds, he saw his lead diminish and even lost after a poor round three and a poor beginning to round four. With that said, McIlroy was able to regain the lead and hold on to win at Augusta, making history along the way.

With this victory, McIlroy joins legends like Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, and Jack Nicklaus in becoming the fourth ever golfer to win the Masters twice in a row. This sort of achievement is unprecedented and extremely impressive, given that the Augusta course has given McIlroy trouble in the past.

The weekend also saw fantastic performances from Cameron Young, Justin Rose, and Scottie Scheffler, who all came within a few strokes of the leader by the weekend’s end.

Furthermore, the weekend at the Masters saw one of the most lucrative tournaments in PGA history. The total prize money for the event amounted to $22.5 million, setting a record high for any major tournament. McIlroy won a check worth $4.5 million as the winner.

It is essential to consider the development of the tournament over time when conducting an analysis of the 2026 Masters. Even though the Masters is an older tournament, rich in tradition, it is constantly evolving and growing into one of the biggest spectacles each year. McIlroy may have been the winner, but the world of golf ultimately won over millions after what was another truly successful weekend.
