Olivia Rodrigo: New Album, New Era
On April 2, Olivia Rodrigo finally announced her third album, titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. This highly anticipated album, which Rodrigo has been teasing since late 2025, is set to release this summer on June 12.
The day of the announcement, Rodrigo’s Instagram was wiped clean before the album cover was finally posted. The cover features Rodrigo in a pink dress mid-air on a swing against a baby blue sky.
“I am so proud of this record, and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” the singer wrote in the caption of the announcement.
This new album marks a new era for Olivia Rodrigo, one that is seemingly breaking the four-letter, purple mold we have all come to associate with the singer. This new era seems to be a rebrand, one that emphasizes the growth Rodrigo has experienced as a songwriter and a person.
“I knew really early on that I wanted to break that mold a little bit. I mean I’m older now. This is an album that I made when I was 22. The other albums I made when I was a teenager, and it just sort of felt like a natural progression to switch things up,” Rodrigo explained in an interview with Zane Lowe.
While the wait for the album will be a long one, fans did not have to wait long with the first single off the album, “Drop Dead,” dropping on April 17. The single quickly climbed the charts, reaching #1 on Spotify charts with over 10 million streams, making this single the biggest debut of Rodrigo’s career.
The day after the drop of “Drop Dead,” she surprised fans by coming out on stage with Addison Rae at Coachella. The two sang Rae’s hit song “Headphones On” before performing Rodrigo’s newly released single together.
Rodrigo will also be pulling double duty at SNL on May 2, serving as both a host and musical guest.
