Sigma Chi’s Annual Derby Days

April 14 kicks off the start of Sigma Chi’s Derby Days.

Derby Days is a series of events hosted by Sigma Chi to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. The overall goal is to raise $10,000 to contribute towards the foundation, although according to Derby Days Chair Ben Bonville, Sigma Chi as an organization also aims “to bring people from different parts of the campus community together that would otherwise not cross paths.”

As the chair of Derby Days, Bonville decided to take part in the series of fundraisers “to find something that could connect the campus community at large and contribute to the battle against cancer.” As a fraternity, Sigma Chi work to create more campus engagement, promoting brotherhood, and create a positive representation of Greek Life.

The first event of the Derby Days series is their annual “Pie A Sig” in University Park from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM on April 13.

On April 14 in the Kelly Gymnasium, Sigma Chi will be hosting their Dodgeball Tournament from 7:00–10:00 PM If you’re a dodgeball fanatic and want to support a good cause, each entry costs only eight dollars.

If you have a loved one who has been affected by cancer, you can honor them with Sig Chi’s White Cross Memorial Wall in University Park on April 16. The event entails writing a loved one’s name on a white cross, which will then be placed on the memorial wall. With every donation comes a chocolate bar as well.

On April 17, make your way over to Tropical Smoothie (3 Broad St, Bridgewater, MA 02324) where 25% of net sales will be donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The fundraiser will last the duration of Tropical Smoothie’s operating hours (7:00 AM–12:00 AM).

The members of Sigma Chi encourage attendance at these events as it is not only a way to engage yourself with fraternity life but also the campus community.
