A Guide to DegreeWorks

Having complete freedom to choose what classes you take here at Bridgewater State University can be incredibly exciting! However, at times, the process can also be overwhelming, especially for newer students. How many credits do you need for your desired major? What classes will fit best into my schedule? When should you take certain courses in order to be on track to graduate on time? Luckily, DegreeWorks comes in handy in answering these questions when registration season rolls around once again.

DegreeWorks is a website available to all Bridgewater State students that tracks the progress of your degree, giving suggestions for what classes you should take next. Each major and minor that you have selected will be clearly outlined, along with all the courses that would fit each requirement within the program to receive full credit. This includes your core classes as well, providing an easily accessible resource beyond your advisors to map out your time here at Bridgewater.

Along with this, DegreeWorks has an amazing feature where you can hypothetically add a major or a minor to your plan, showing you exactly what credits you would need to take in the future to fulfill that degree and how much time it would take to complete. This is a wonderful tool, as it allows for students to explore other opportunities that could be available to them. Many students check their DegreeWorks constantly, whether its registration season or otherwise, simply to check their current status or see what classes can count for credit in the future.

DegreeWorks is especially helpful during the transitional periods of the year, typically at the end of the Fall semester and the very end of the Spring semester. During these times, students are reaching out to advisors to plan for the following semester and see what courses could “double dip,” covering multiple different requirements.

To access DegreeWorks, visit your InfoBear, and scroll down to the “DegreeWorks” section of the site. There, your current GPA will be displayed, with another option that says “View audit,” bringing you to the main DegreeWorks page. Be sure to explore your options, talk to your advisors, and always plan ahead to ensure you pick the best classes for you!
