How to Find Your Community at BSU
BSU is a community made up of a hundred different, smaller sub communities. Personally, I would say it is impossible for you not to find a group of people with shared interests to have fun with. For me to try and describe or list all the opportunities that there are to get involved with different groups on campus would be like trying to cram 100 pounds of fun into a 10-pound bag, but I can at least give you some tips on where to start.
Start with your dorms! Your RAs (Resident Assistants) are students just like you, and they often host plenty of fun activities throughout the year that all residents of that dorm are welcome to attend. It might seem like an obvious one, but if you are looking for a community to connect with, try checking out the one you are living in. As for our freshmen who are commuters, I recommend stopping by one of our lovely commuter lounges. Located on the ground floor of RSU, it is a great place to get work done, chat with other commuters, or just chill between classes. You will also see plenty of fun activities hosted in commuter lounges throughout the year, so be sure to drop by and check it out.
The next tip I have for you is to keep an eye on your email and the poster boards around campus. While those student announcement emails might seem repetitive and annoying, sometimes they are the best way to find out about fun activities and events hosted by different groups on campus. Whether it is a bingo or a dance, chances are there is a public email and poster about it.
The last tip I have for you is to check your major. Most majors and departments have some sort of club or group attached to them. You are already interested in the same topic, so might as well get to know each other! For example, the history club is the perfect place for history majors and history enthusiasts to come together to talk about their favorite topics.
I will leave you with this, clubs and communities are not exclusive to your major. You might be a history major, a theatre major, a criminal justice major, or a biology major, but above all else, you are a Bridgewater Bear.
