How to use BlackBoard

Bridgewater State University uses the resource Blackboard for students and their classes, but how does it operate? This article will be a short guide to using that platform!

Blackboard can be accessed online via the Bridgewater State website as well as downloaded as an app to most mobile devices. The web version supports the following browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Blackboard, once accessed, allows for students to view information about their courses and manage them.

Students should automatically have an account in Blackboard with their student email address, allowing free access to the platform through the school.

Blackboard opens with a homepage and a panel on the left side with tabs corresponding to different areas to manage classes. Under the “Courses” tab, students can see what classes they have and are automatically put into blackboard classrooms after enrolling. Clicking on specific classes can tell you important details like who your instructor is, what assignments are posted, and when they are due, as well as grade postings and announcements from that class’s professor. Professors may also decide to post online exams through the blackboard platform, making it easy to find and complete exams as well as see your accumulated grade easier. (This all under the assumption instructors choose to post on Blackboard.)

Another smart feature that helps with organizing is the Calendar. Under the “Calendar” tab, you can see the dates in which assignments are posted and due, allowing you to map out how to plan your work. You can also create events as well in the calendar by clicking the plus icon and customizing your own events. This can all help you to keep track of assignments, complete them on time, and stay organized overall.
