Maxwell Library: BSU’s Study Hub
The Maxwell Library is one of the main hubs at Bridgewater State. Many argue it’s the best spot on campus to find resources, study independently, or simply unwind and get coffee with a few friends!
The Maxwell Library was first officially opened in 1971, named after Dr. Clement C. Maxwell. The building sits roughly in the middle of campus, right next to the Rondileau Student Union (RSU) and across from the Dana Mohler-Faria Science and Mathematics Center (DMF).
The building consists of three library floors, with a ground floor at the bottom. Each floor is meant to be quieter as you go up; the ground floor is for normal conversation, the first floor is for whispering or small dialogue, and the second and third floors are meant to be entirely silent. Students can customize the environment that they wish to work in, with each floor having open areas for studying. Along with this, most floors also have sensory pods, a relatively new addition to the open spaces here at Bridgewater. The pods consist of a walled-area with comfortable chairs and customizable lighting, along with charging ports. This is wonderful for students who might have sensory issues, or simply prefer a closed-in, more private space to study.
Along with this, the ground floor has multiple wonderful resources for students. The Academic Achievement Center (AAC) is available for all students to find tutoring services, testing services, and advising help. Students can come in for tutoring in all subjects, and can even apply to be a student tutor themselves in a variety of different subjects. The ground floor also has our Starbucks, open from 7:30–4:30 PM, Monday–Thursday, and 7:30–3:00 PM on Fridays. Right beside the Starbucks is our technology services, where students can visit if they need assistance in fixing their devices or possibly renting a school-issued laptop.
Maxwell Library is also known for its wonderful study rooms, with a plethora of different size options to choose from. Students can visit the Maxwell Library website to book a private study room for a certain amount of time or visit the second floor’s front desk to book a slot in person. Our library is also home to informational resources, with thousands of books covering a variety of unique subjects. When those research papers come around, Maxwell Library is the best spot to find the trusted sources that you need. Its data-base, also located through their website, is an incredible resource as well. The library is open from 7:30 AM to midnight on weekdays, and hours vary during the weekend.
