The Comment: Bridgewater’s Student-Led Newspaper
The Comment is Bridgewater State’s very own student-led newspaper, originally established in 1927. As we enter almost 100 years as an organization, our goals have stayed relatively the same: to provide students with crucial world information, fresh perspectives, and to add to the sense of community we wish to uphold on campus.
The newspaper itself is divided into five sections, with each having a handful of articles in each issue. Campus life, which reports on campus events and student involvement throughout campus, provides a wonderful space to promote student-led organizations and events, showcasing the plethora of leadership and creativity we have on campus. Our news section focuses on local, national, and international news stories, providing an unbiased report on stories that need to be known on campus. Opinion acts as a space for students to publish their own perspectives on a variety of topics, from political beliefs to food preferences, all of which are open for students to freely explore. Arts and entertainment delves into the recent music, film, visual arts, and expressive pieces happening all over the world, especially paying attention to the ones happening on our local campus. Finally, our sports section covers crucial updates in a variety of different sports on all levels, also holding close connections and values to our Bridgewater State athletes.
Students can come into meetings to take the pitches suggested by our editors or even suggest their own! The environment is stress-free as any student of any writing level can come in and request to write an article. Our editors are here to guide you in the right direction, make suggestions to improve your writing skills, and ensure that your voice is being heard!
Our organization is also not funded directly by Bridgewater State, so students are also given the liberty to write articles critiquing anything on campus that they personally disagree with or wish to see change, truly ensuring that our paper reflects the ideas of students on campus. The voices of students are our main priority, and ensuring that everyone is heard and valued is crucial in our act to providing accessible, well-rounded student journalism.
If you are interested in writing for The Comment, we meet every Thursday from 6:00–7:00 PM in the Rondileau Student Union. Our office is located on the ground floor, right across from the student-led radio station, WBIM. Any student can visit the office as well, when editors are present for their office hours, to ask questions, suggest pitches, or ask for feedback on articles.
Our issues will be available at newspaper posts all around campus. We also have a website, commentbsu.com. Check out our articles there as well!
