Welcome to Bridgewater State University!

Hey new bears!

You have so many exciting things ahead of you, and as a rising senior, I am so jealous. I have truly loved my time here so much, and I know you all will too. Bridgewater was not my top choice, but it ended up being the best choice I could’ve made for myself.

I still vividly remember the day my parents dropped me off at my room at Shea Hall. I was excited to be on my own but absolutely scared out of my mind. As an out-of-state student, I worried that I wouldn’t connect with anyone and would be stuck alone in this new place so far from home. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Over my years here, I haven’t just gained a multitude of new connections; I have found a new family, who love me unconditionally.

My number one tip for new students is to get involved! I am a member of several organizations on campus, and I credit each one as the reason BSU has been such a positive experience for me. Saying yes to joining on-campus organizations, even if I was unsure or nervous at first, has allowed me to gain friendships and new skills and allowed me to discover what I want to do for the rest of my life. So, if you see an organization that peaks your interest, look into it!

Bridgewater offers so much to every student that steps onto campus; utilize as much as you can! Take advantage of BSU’s small class sizes and connect with professors. Each has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that can help you be successful throughout your time here at BSU and beyond. Make an appointment with Career Services, where professionals can help you build your resumé, write a strong cover letter, and find internships that match your career goals. Go to Bears Den and get a poke bowl that makes even the worst day a little brighter, trust me!

My final words of wisdom for you are don’t lose your connect card, say yes to as much as you can, and ECC is over hated.

Go Bears—everyday truly is always a great day to be a bear!
