The Connecticut Hate is Forced
About 94% of BSU’s student population is Massachusetts residents, leaving the remaining 6% as international or out-of-state students. Wonderfully, I am part of that tiny sliver of out-of-staters. Therefore, as one of the very few, I felt it was finally time to come forward in defense of the little state I hail from: Connecticut.
Connecticut gets a lot of hate; even my favorite artist, Noah Kahan, claims that CT is “not a part of New England” (this insult cuts deep for me). However, I am here to say that the Connecticut hate is unwarranted. Granted, I understand our highways are objectively terrible and that we have a very snobbish reputation, but Connecticut is just as awesome as the rest of New England if you just allow us a chance.
Here are my five arguments as to why:
- New Haven Pizza is delicious. While I am partial to New York-style pizza, which is also plentiful throughout the state, fresh coal-fired pizza is to die for.
- We have Mystic Aquarium, which is 100% better than the New England Aquarium in Boston. Before you argue, go meet Juno the Beluga Whale and then get back to me.
- As a Hartford County resident, the majority of Connecticuters, who don’t live in the tail (just kidding, Fairfield County), aren’t snobs.
- Our coastal towns offer a warmer and calmer ocean experience, with many still holding the historic charm of their maritime village days.
- UCONN Basketball (no further explanation needed).
So before you laugh at little old Connecticut, take a second and remember that Rhode Island exists.
