Ronaldo Plots Return
Cristiano Ronaldo is rumored to be returning to the national team in the November international break after facing a suspension for his transgressions with coach Jorge Jesus.
This stems from an incident on September 27th, in which Jesus warmed Ronaldo up for an extended amount of time and proceeded to not use him as a substitute. This led to Ronaldo immediately leaving the pitch without signing autographs or taking pictures.
In the days following, Ronaldo, the Portuguese football federation (FPF), and Jesus met to discuss what would be said at an upcoming press conference regarding the incident. When the press conference came and went without any of the comments being said, Ronaldo made the decision to leave the national team with two games remaining.
This came as both a shock to both people close to Ronaldo and the general public, as the Portuguese hero walked off unsure if he would wear the crest again. Ronaldo assured everyone that he was fine via his Instagram @cristiano saying that he would tell the Portuguese about his reasons to leave.
On October 6th, Ronaldo posted his side of the story, detailing what happened from his point of view. This included Jesus approaching him to play in the Norway game, even though it was not supposed to be a game Ronaldo would feature in, and that he would get roughly 30 minutes.
Ronaldo also posted notes on what Jorge Jesus was supposed to say during his press conference, including phrases such as “I made a mistake in having some of the stature of Pele or Maradona warm up then not putting him in the game” as well as “I don’t want him a little, I want him a lot”
If the FPF punishes Ronaldo as their guidelines state, he will be suspended for a period of 1 to 6 months, along with receiving a fine. Ronaldo was officially suspended on October 9th, and with Portugal’s next game being November 14th versus Denmark, a one-month suspension would leave Ronaldo just enough time to reacclimate to the National team before their first game.
