Fatal Shooting In Worcester
WORCESTER— I–190 was shut down for nearly 4 hours last week (Wednesday, October 3,) after a 41–year–old male, identified as Felix Rivera of Worcester, attempted to carjack commuters while brandishing a handgun. According to State Police spokesperson Brandon Doherty, officers responded to the scene at 3:40 p.m, where the suspect is alleged to have initiated a shootout. Video taken by commuters show the moment officers surrounded Rivera, who proceeded to take his own life. The incident lasted about an hour before coming to a close,

Authorities claim that Rivera was fleeing from nearby Heroult Road, where he is alleged to have shot a man at his home only an hour prior to the shootout on the highway. Gunfire was initially heard by others in the neighborhood around 2:20 p.m. When police arrived on the scene,
a man identified by police as 40–year–old Yubar Perez was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Neighbors expressed that nothing noticeably suspicious occurred at the home in the days and weeks prior to the shooting.

Heroult Rd resident Sean Gilfoyle told NBC 10 Boston, “It’s a rental and I think they just moved in recently, so as far as that, no. Like I said, It’s a quiet neighborhood, so I don’t know when they moved in. But, they were quiet… that’s all I know.” (NBC 10 Boston) The motive for the initial shooting and subsequent suicide of the suspect remains under investigation.
