Cybersecurity Experts Called on Harris to Address Potential Election Interference

Cybersecurity experts sent a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris to call for recounts of votes in key swing states for the 2024 presidential election.

According to the detailed letter, computer scientists are concerned that there was election interference in the general election. This letter follows the events of ballot boxes being burned in Washington and Oregon, and FBI reports being released about bomb threats in multiple polling stations across the country.

According to the FBI, many of the bomb threats seemed to originate from Russia, information that comes as a concern to those advocating for investigations into election interference. Putin congratulated Trump extensively on his victory.

The letter that called for Kamala Harris to take action, signed by computer science professors from renowned universities including John E. Savage from Brown University, explains how election interference may have occurred: “Possessing copies of the voting system software enables bad actors to install it on electronic devices and to create their own working replicas of the voting systems, probe them, and develop exploits.”

In a speech he made in Detroit in June, Trump stated, “We don’t need [the] votes,” a statement that sparked concern from many, especially in light of the federal charges against Trump for his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

In a post on the social media app “X,” (formerly known as Twitter,) Elon Musk wrote, “Anything can be hacked.” On June 16.

Musk, who has no prior political experience, has been under scrutiny by democrats for his close involvement with Trump in his campaign for presidency, in which he spent approximately 130 million dollars to aid in Trump’s victory.

Following Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, Musk has grown 70 billion dollars richer, and been appointed by Trump to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),  which is not an official government department and has raised concerns about its supposed purpose.

Democrats have been widely criticized for conceding the results of the election so early without a more thorough investigation and recounts. While some are blaming Harris’ loss on potential election interference, others are placing the blame on the American people’s failure to show up. Senator Bernie Sanders stated, “Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign?”
