BSU WOMEN’S SOCCER LOOKING TO MOVE FORWARD AFTER THREE GAME LOSING STREAK
The Bridgewater State University women’s soccer team has hit a rough patch as of late.
The Lady Bears have lost three straight games and have fallen to 6-7-2. Despite the three game losing streak, Bridgewater State sits in third place in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).
On Tuesday, the Lady Bears lost to non-conference opponent the University of Massachusetts at Boston, 3-1, as UMass Boston scored two goals in the second half to take home the win.
Contributing to the recent losing streak has been a number of injuries this season that the Lady Bears have tried to overcome.
“I think we’ve played some good games,” said head coach Lou Verrochi “We’ve played some games we’d like to have back but for the most part I think that dealing with the injuries and how we’ve played since the injuries has been very positive.”
Even with the losing streak, right now, the Lady Bears are just focused on moving forward.
“Right now, we don’t want to look back in the past,” said senior goalie and captain Kerry Condon.
The Lady Bears will need to find solutions to their problems soon because the postseason looms with just one regular season game left on the schedule.
“I think we just have to come together more,” said sophomore forward Mackenzie Hatfield. “We just have to focus on what we’ve been doing wrong and fix it. I think everything else will come into place.”
Verrochi has been happy with what he’s seen, but he still feels there’s more to be done.
“We’re always looking to improve,” said Verrochi. “We’re always trying to get the perfect game out of every one of them individually. But we know as a team that’s physically and mentally impossible but as close as we can get to that.”
Helping the team on the field this season is the chemistry players have with one another, and they will have to rely on that chemistry to get them back to their winning ways.
“I think the girls have just grown closer together and we’ve really become a family,” said junior forward Erica Jonasson. “I think this year we went out of the way to really spend time together and come closer.”
As the Lady Bears move closer to the end of the regular season, they are hoping to make one final push in the postseason.
“Our overall goal is to come as high up in the standings as we can and to go as far as possible in the tournament,” Hatfield said.
Bridgewater State will play their final game of the regular season on November 2 at home against Salem State University at 1 p.m.
