MOLLY FOUND ON BSU CAMPUS

Five teenagers, three of them Bridgewater State University students, were arrested for possession of alcohol last Saturday night on campus. Two of the students were also arrested for possession of the drug “molly” or MDMA.

Paige Nitardy, 18, of 35 Canterbury Lane, Vineyard Haven, a freshman at BSU, Nicole Anderson, 18, of 20 Fordham Drive, Norton, also a freshman at BSU, and Lindsey Pouliot, 18, of 6 Ken Lane, Granby, a freshman at Westfield State University were all charged with underage possession of alcohol.

Alisha Conti, 18, of 22 Scott Hollow Drive, Holyoke, a BSU freshman, faces charges of underage possession of alcohol and possession of a Class B drug.

A 16-year-old was arrested as a juvenile on underage possession of alcohol and possession of a Class B drug charges.

According to the Brockton Enterprise, this is the first time the Bridgewater State Police Department has encountered the drug “molly” on campus. Also, the article stated that four of the students are to be arraigned Thursday on charges of underage drinking and one of them will be arraigned on possession of molly, a Class B drug.

On Saturday, around 9:07 p.m., a BSU police officer recognized suspicious activity in a car in the Great Hill Drive parking lot. On the initial search, the officer found alcohol in the car . Upon searching the vehicle again, the officer found molly.

Molly, has become a hot topic for debate in recent weeks, after it has been linked to multiple overdoses and three fatalities in the region, according to authorities.

“It is something they [Bridgewater State police] are paying a lot of attention to,” said University spokesperson Bryan Baldwin. “It is not unique to Bridgewater. It is problematic and it has the potential to be tragic.”

According to Baldwin, the BSU Police Department is working with a task force made up of police departments from surrounding communities and they are putting an emphasis on impeding the illegal drug in this area.

Baldwin said the Bridgewater State students involved will go through the legal process and also go through a conde of conduct process with the University.
