SGA UPDATE OF THE WEEK

The Student Government Association (SGA) at Bridgewater State University has been busy this past week.

During their meeting on Tuesday, November 12, Patrick Cronin, Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Information Technology, was invited to speak about the new BSU student portal and website. He acknowledged the several renovations being made to the site to make it more easily accessible and useful for students in a world of advancing, twenty-first century technology.

“We wanted Pat Cronin to come in and inform us on the changes and on other technological improvements,” said Brendan Concannon, student trustee of the SGA. “I hope that the website can be used by students, faculty, and community members to do all of the things that they need to and expect from the website, and when all of the changes are rolled out, I’m sure it will be great.”

The Rondileau Campus Center Taskforce is another hot topic with the SGA. According to the BSU website, the RCC Revitalization Taskforce was established in January by President Dana Mohler-Faria to address the three main questions of what the RCC should mean to the BSU community, how can it become more central to a holistic experience, and what design and program aspects can be implemented within the RCC to support student success.

The first part of the process, renovating the Park Street entrances, is expected to be finished sometime this semester.

Both Concannon and SGA president Gabby Diniz said they hope to use their positions to ensure a campus center focusing on student programs and extracurricular activities.

The Social Justice League’s annual Tent City event, which started on November 19 and takes place for the whole week, is an event partially funded by the SGA, according to Concannon.

A Men’s Leadership Retreat is also in the near future for the senate. More information about this can be found by contacting the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership as it is their event, Diniz said.
