BSU Spring Breakers

The only thing as diverse as the students of Bridgewater State University themselves are their Spring Break plans. While students normally collaborate and work together during the semester they all have very different ideas of how and where to spend their week of free time. From sitting beachside down south to exploring with friends on the other side of the Atlantic, to meeting up with new and old friends around town to just catch up and hang out, Bridgewater State students did, went, and saw all different things last week.
The first thing that comes to most college students’ minds when they hear spring break is the beach. Not all students spend their spring break this way but some lucky Bridgewater State students did. Elementary Education and Biology double major, Kaitlin Cook, spent her break visiting her grandmother in the warm 80-degree weather of Bradenton, Florida. “I think my absolute favorite part was getting up early [Saturday morning] and getting to see the sunrise. I saw dolphins playing near the shore, fish flinging themselves out of the water, and I found my first shark tooth,” said Cook. Instead of dealing with a lot of travel, many students liked to stay home for spring break. Elementary Education and Musical Theatre double major, Maddie Olson, decided to spend time with her family. Instead of dealing with a lot of travel, many students liked to stay home for spring break. Elementary Education and Musical Theatre double major, Maddie Olson, decided to spend time with her family. While she stayed home most of the week she went with her family to see The Lion King Musical the last Friday of spring -break. Similarly, Elementary Education major, Sydney Arruda, followed a similar pattern by staying home for the week to work occasionally and spend time with her family. But, most of her time was spent catching up with her high school friends who were all back in their hometown for break as well.
They went to cafes and malls in the area, all the while spending money, something Arruda deems as the “big thing for spring break.” But according to Arruda it was worth being able to catch up with old friends. “Even though we go to different schools we’re still good friends,” said Arruda about her favorite part of her spring break. Jake Mastrorilli, a Communications major with a film, video, and media studies concentration, also stayed home for his break. Mastrorilli worked a little but his main focus was visiting new places in his area with friends. Whether they were going to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts or just sitting around watching movies he was happy just to be with his friends. Another Bridgewater student who, also, enjoyed a fun day trip over break is Kayleigh Poudrier.
This Elementary Education and Philosophy double major spent a day in Woodstock, Vermont with her boyfriend to enjoy all the beautiful nature adventures that Vermont has to offer. After making multiple stops at antique stores along the way, they arrived at Billings Farm and Museum, housing multiple educational exhibits and fully functional dairy farm. Afterwards they decided to hike part of the Appalachian Mountains for a little while until it started to rain. “Even when it started downpouring it was still beautiful and quiet,” said Poudrier. Spending time with friends seems to be the theme of most Bridgewater State University students’ spring breaks but, not all students stayed home to do this. Currently undecided, Russell Moreau, visited his high school friends a whole ocean away from home. Moreau traveled to England and Ireland to meet up with his friends who are currently studying abroad at Westminster in London. With Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the Globe Theatre, to name a few, as the backdrop Moreau was able to catch up with old friends as well as explore an exciting new country. “Seeing all the architecture, castles, Regents Park is insanely pretty and the food is so good!” Said Moreau, who highly recommends the trip to anyone who enjoys traveling and seeing new places. Whether they be home or across an entire ocean, Bridgewater State University students choose to spend time with their loved ones more than anything. Their weeklong spring breaks may be filled with adventure, work, and sleep but it’s first and foremost filled with friends and family
