Until last winter, the Bridgewater State University Dance Team was a club sport that performed at Midnight Madness, football games, basketball games, and their own benefit shows.

However, after months of fundraising, 8 hour practices, and volunteering at local dance studios, the BSU Dance Team earned themselves a round trip to Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Dance Team member Lindsay Somerville said, “We had to pay our dues, do a lot of fundraising, help out at local studios, and hold eight hour practices to do it.”

The competition took place last December at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida. The team placed 10th in the nation.

The team consists of 13 girls that practice three times a week, preparing for upcoming performances and shows.

Treasurer Cort Puza is very excited about the team’s plans for this upcoming season, stating “We are extremely excited for the upcoming year. We just got our first ever coach Miss Cassie Angellis. We have been working hard to stay in shape, and focus on training our bodies in the healthiest way possible. We are looking forward to competing in Disney World again, as well as performing and helping out with some on campus events!”

Performances include football and basketball games, Midnight Madness, and their annual show. All routines are student choreographed, mainly by captains Madison Couture, Andrea Souza and Cort Puza.
